Summit Sponsors Free Flu Shot Saturday on Oct. 27
Six Knoxville area schools will be the locations for upcoming free flu shots on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon. Summit Medical Group is a major sponsor of the event. Locations include: Austin-East High, Carter High, Farragut Intermediate, Halls High, South-Doyle Middle, and West High schools. Shots are offered free of charge, but donations are accepted for the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Empty Stocking Fund, a charity now in its 100th year that provides food and gifts to needy families during the winter holidays. Donation boxes will be set up at the sites.
Vaccines are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Only the injected vaccine, not the intranasal spray, will be available and provided to those age 4 and older.
Free Flu Shot Saturday’s purpose is to reduce the amount of influenza in the community by vaccinating a large portion of the population. This year, 7,000 doses are available. Flu season usually begins in October and can last through May.
