Free Flu Shot SaturdaySix Knoxville area schools will be the locations for upcoming free flu shots on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon. Summit Medical Group is a major sponsor of the event. Locations include: Austin-East High, Carter High, Farragut Intermediate, Halls High, South-Doyle Middle, and West High schools. Shots are offered free of charge, but donations are accepted for the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Empty Stocking Fund, a charity now in its 100th year that provides food and gifts to needy families during the winter holidays. Donation boxes will be set up at the sites.

Vaccines are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Only the injected vaccine, not the intranasal spray, will be available and provided to those age 4 and older.

Free Flu Shot Saturday’s purpose is to reduce the amount of influenza in the community by vaccinating a large portion of the population. This year, 7,000 doses are available. Flu season usually begins in October and can last through May.

Rotary Club members from seven Rotary Clubs in Knoxville staff all of these sites and provide volunteer support, handling parking and the sign-in process and filling any other needs. Many of those hard-working Rotarians are probably Summit patients. It would have been nice to at least mention them.

Are there going to be any free flu shots available in the Jefferson City area?
